PARISH NEWS

On Sunday, November 18 2007, the annual Parish Assembly took place at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Mebane, North Carolina. Father Alexander Logunov, interim acting rector, presided over the assembly. Before opening the assembly, Father Alexander thanked outgoing warden Ivan Dolgov for his dedicated service to the mission. Mr. Dolgov had served as the warden since 1996.

The assembly began with a financial report delivered by Alex Primak, parish treasurer. Dr. Primak reported on the results of the fundraising drives and expenses in connection with the purchase of property this summer. The parishioners expressed their gratitute to all who have donated to the needs of the mission, and especially to the Fund for the Needs of the ROCOR, the St. John Building Fund (St Louis, Missouri), and Nicholas Lochmatow for their financial assistance, which was instrumental in acquiring the church building this summer. Parishioners also expressed their gratitude to St Seraphim of Sarov Orthodox Church in Sea Cliff, NY, All Saints of Russia Orthodox Church in Denver, CO, All Saints Antiochian Orthodox Church in Raleigh, NC, and St Basil of Ostrog Orthodox Church in Kernersville, NC, for generously donated liturgical items. Dr. Primak concluded by reiterating that, given large expenses associated with the renovation of the church building, the fundraising drives will continue.

The parish then heard reports by Subdeacon Nicholas Ganson and parish secretary Aleksandr Andreev on the ongoing renovations. Subdeacon Nicholas reported on the progress of discussions with the local Environmental and Health Department on the upgrade of the septic system and plans to install heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

Parishioners then discussed the current state of the parish. Particular emphasis was drawn to the need for regular services. Services are currently held only every 1-2 months.

The executive officers were elected for the upcoming year. The Board of Trustees consists of: Priest Alexander Logunov (ex officio), Subdeacon Nicholas Ganson, Alex Primak, Ivan and Lidya Dolgov. The Parish Council was elected consisting of: Alex Primak - warden, Ljudmila Trofimova - treasurer, Aleksandr Andreev - secretary, and Subdeacon Nicholas - for Fr. Alexander. To assist the officers in their numerous duties, the parish resolved to constitute a sisterhood and to establish two additional positions: Michael Silverman was elected as assistant to the warden and Elena Dutova as assistant to the treasurer. The sisters were instructed to meet the next Sunday to formerly charter the sisterhood, elect a president, and choose a heavenly intercessor.

In conclusion, Fr. Alexander thanked parishioners for their work and, noting that substantial progress had been made during the course of this year, expressed hope that remaining issues will be resolved in the upcoming year.
